Certifications
Is Commercial Metal Fabricators ISO certified?
Yes. Commercial Metal Fabricators is ISO 9001:2015 certified under Certificate No. 4364. The scope is Fabrication, Water Jet, Laser, Forming, Welding, Machining, Burning and Rolling.
Who is CMF's ISO registrar and when does the certificate expire?
CMF's registrar is EAGLE Registrations Inc. (ANAB accredited, IAF MLA member). The certificate is valid January 7, 2026 through January 6, 2029, and was recertified November 13, 2025.
Can CMF register pressure vessels with the National Board?
Yes. Commercial Metal Fabricators is authorized to apply the "NB" mark and register boilers, pressure vessels or other pressure-retaining items with the National Board of Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspectors under ASME designator U. The authorization was issued January 29, 2020 and revised September 25, 2022. It remains in effect while CMF holds a valid ASME Certificate of Authorization.
Industries
Defense & federal
Are you registered to work on federal contracts?
Yes. Commercial Metal Fabricators is a DoD-approved federal supplier under CAGE code 6A011, with primary NAICS 332710. Our UEI is available on request.
How do I send export-controlled drawings?
Do not upload export-controlled (ITAR) or CUI files on this site. Flag it on the project form and CMF will send you a secure link for the files.
Can you support prime contractors as a subcontractor?
Yes. CMF builds armor, test tanks, fixtures and vehicle components for defense programs and prime contractors, under an ISO 9001:2015 and MIL-I-45208A approved quality system.
Who do I talk to about a defense program?
Contact Brian Davis, CMF Military Sales, at bdavis@cmfweb.com or 937-233-4911. He replies within one business day.
Capabilities
Machining
How large a part can you machine?
CMF's TOS Varnsdorf WHQ 15 CNC boring mill has a 98 × 138 in table, and a second TOS mill has a 78 × 137 in table. Both sit under overhead crane coverage with 18 ft under the hook.
Can you machine a part after it's welded?
Yes. CMF welds and machines in the same building, so weldments go straight to the boring mill for post-weld machining to print, with no shipping between vendors.
What have you machined recently?
Recent CMF jobs include a 5 in 6061-T6 aluminum component for a large military test fixture and the bored heads of a ballistic research blast tank.
Capabilities
Cutting & waterjet
How thick can your waterjet cut?
CMF's Flow 5-axis waterjet cuts thick plate, stainless and aluminum cold at 95,000 psi, with parts up to 78 × 156 in. For a blast tank, it cut 1-1/2 in heads.
Why choose waterjet over laser or plasma?
Waterjet cuts without heat, so edges come off clean and ready for weld with no heat-affected zone. CMF also runs a 5 kW laser to 1 in and plasma to 2 in when those are the better fit.
Can cut parts go straight into forming or welding?
Yes. CMF kits cut parts for its own press brakes, plate rolls and weld stations, so there is no hand-off between vendors.
Capabilities
Forming & rolling
What thickness can you form?
CMF forms thin sheet through thick plate on press brakes from 135 to 400 tons, including a 400-ton Pacific with a 14 ft bed. Plate rolls handle up to 3/4 in × 12 ft.
Can you roll cylinders and cones?
Yes. CMF's Bertsch plate rolls turn flat plate into cylinders, shells, cones, transitions and radiused segments, then our welders and boring mill finish them in the same building.
What have you rolled before?
Recent CMF work includes a ballistic research blast tank rolled from 3/4 in plate and a stainless process tank 12 ft in diameter and 25 ft long.
What materials do you form?
CMF forms carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum, from one-off prototypes to production runs, with CNC programs saved for every reorder.
Capabilities
Welding & fabrication
What materials do you weld?
CMF welds carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum using MIG, TIG and stick processes across 24 MIG and 5 TIG stations.
Do you handle production runs or only one-offs?
Both. CMF builds fixturing for repeat production and also takes one-off prototypes, weldments and full assemblies with kitting.
Can welded parts be machined in-house?
Yes. Weldments move straight to CMF's TOS CNC boring mills for post-weld machining, under the same ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
Capabilities
Shearing, punching & sawing
How large a sheet can you shear?
CMF's Cincinnati squaring shear cuts plate and sheet up to 3/8 in thick and 12 ft long.
Do you saw structural shapes?
Yes. CMF saws structural shapes on an Amada HA-400 16 in auto-feed saw and two 36 in Do-All contour band saws.
Can you just prep material for another step?
Shearing, punching and sawing feed directly into CMF's forming, welding and machining, so prepped material never leaves the building.
Capabilities
Inspection & finishing
What inspection equipment do you use?
CMF inspects parts with an 8 ft FARO Arm running PolyWorks, a 36 × 48 in granite surface plate and a HYPRO pressure test station.
What documentation ships with parts?
CMF provides material certifications and traceability, first-article inspection reports, certificates of conformance, and dimensional reports on request.
Do you paint parts in-house?
Yes. CMF paints and packs parts in-house before they ship, about 10 minutes from I-70 and I-75.
